365 Iowa beers 46-50

Fifty beers, what an accomplishment! Wait, I guess not really. But since I’m not currently working, every little milestone helps.

Beer 46: Chateau 4th St. Chipotle Porter

ABV: ?

Consumed at: Chateau 4th St.

Notes: My father-in-law regularly changes up what he’s brewing, but this porter has been a regular for the last few years. He gave me a heads up that this batch didn’t have as much heat as the last time he brewed it. I agree, but it’s still good.

Beer 47: West O Pilsner Lager

ABV: 6%

Purchased at: 86th St. Hy-Vee

Notes: I didn’t write down a lot of notes for this beer. It was good, but nothing really stood out. Maybe I need to try one while lounging at Lake Okoboji to really get a feel for it.

Beers 48-50: Boone Valley Honey Kolsch, Boone Valley Apricot Hefeweizen, Boone Valley Light Belgium Wit

ABV: 5% (Kolsch), 5.5% (Hefe. Wit)

Notes: Here’s a new to me brewery. Boone Valley tapped three beers at Up-Down, letting consumers vote which one they should brew at the upcoming Hinterland Music Festival. I think the Kolsch was the clear winner here. It was light and refreshing, but not as sweet as the other two beers. Drinkers could also suggest a name for each, but I forgot to write mine down in my notes. Damn. Maybe I’ll go and have my memory jogged by seeing the names on the tap. Like when I forgot a t-shirt idea I suggested to Holy White Hounds, until I saw a half-naked lady wearing it.
