In my time with the The Register I would regularly post bands that might be possibilities to play the 80/35 Music Festival. I didn’t do that this year, mostly because I was helping to write the hints video, so I had too much inside info to make guesses.
My son shows up early in the video. Sadly, my daughter got stage fright, so she didn’t make it in.
Sorry to all the people who guessed Animal Collective. The animals (other than the wolf masks) weren’t a clue, it’s just how the daycare room was decorated.
The Decemberists and Nas are the headliners, with Wolf Parade, Lotus, The Black Lips, Craig Finn and Jeff Austin Band among the big names.
Locals include Holy White Hounds, Green Death, TWINS, SIRES, TIRES, MAIDS, FRO and more acts that aren’t in all caps. At the Register we didn’t run band names in all caps, but screw AP style!
80/35 will be held July 8-9 in Western Gateway Park downtown. Tickets are $65 for both days or $42 per day through Midwestix. At the gate tickets will be $50 per day or $90 for both days.
Here’s the lineup so far. There are a few more slots to fill, but this is the bulk of the acts.
Holy White Hounds
The Pistol Whippin Party Penguins
The Black Lips
Thao & The Get Down Stay Down
Lizzo Jeff Austin Band
Mikel Wright & The Wrongs
The Dead Line String Band
The Cardinal Sound
