I don’t really have a good intro for this batch of beers. I hit 275 with this post, another number that makes me feel like I’ve accomplished something, I guess. Assuming you consider drinking a lot of beer an accomplishment. Which I do! Hooray, me!
Beer 271: Toppling Goliath Naughty 90
ABV: 8.2%
Notes: An oaked IPA, which made it stand out a bit from other TG IPA’s, The oak barrel-aging gives it a woody taste, dry and warm. It doesn’t drink like an IPA, it struck me as having more of an ESB flavor.
Beer 272: 515 Brewing Wired Heifer
ABV: 5.5%
Notes: A coffee milk stout, made with beans from Java Joe’s. It’s kind of light for a stout, sweet, and the coffee flavor doesn’t overpower things.
Beer 273: Western Gateway IPA
ABV: 6.8%
Notes: Strong for an IPA, with lots of hop flavor.
Beer 274: 515 Brewing Palatable
ABV: 6.8%
Notes: 515 calls this part of their “Meh” line, singled hopped ales. It uses Huell Melon, a hop that has a bit of a fruit flavor. I guess it wasn’t particularly memorable, but it was a satisfying enough brew.
Beer 275: 515 Brewing Weiner Bever
ABV: 4.9%
Notes: There’s a story behind this name, but it’s not one I’m privy to. It’s a rye wheat, with a bit of a sweet finish from the Amarillo and Centennial hops.
Beer 276: Ian Mostrom Red Ale
ABV: ?
Notes: A red ale my wife’s cousin (is cousin-in-law a thing?) made for his birthday party. Very tasty.
Beer 277: Ian Mostrom Session Ale
ABV: ?
Notes: In theory, session beers are supposed to have a slightly lower alcohol content. That was not the case here. I’d say this was somewhere between “Be careful having more than one” and “Why is the room spinning so much?” But it was a party.
Beer 278: Barn Town Brewing Gluten Glutton
ABV: 4.2%
Notes: I stopped out at the new Barn Town Brewing on its opening weekend for a flight, only to discover only one of their beers was ready. It’s a wheat beer (I think when you mention “Gluten” “free” is often automatically attached in peoples’ mind). Very clean and crisp, with a bit of orange peel flavor.
Beer 279: Flix Stuntman Light Lager
ABV: 5.2%
Notes: I went to see Raiders of the Lost Ark at Flix and tried a few beers while I was there. The first was the Stuntman, which had some good maltiness. It wasn’t super impressive, but maybe seeing the word “Light” just puts me on guard.
Beer 280: Flix Hero Series Grapefruit IPA
ABV: 7.2%
Notes: The mix of pine and grapefruit was a little jarring on the first sip, but then the flavors started to merge well. As a bonus, $1 from every pint goes to anti-bullying organizations. That’s cool.
